Pants in northern Virginia. I was the only one in my ward, but no one commented on my different attire. I filled in for the Primary chorister last minute so all the kids and adult leaders got to see me front and center, rockin the pants.

On my way to church, in pants. I had a couple people compliment me on clothing choice and some great conversations about gender equality.

We often have sisters in pants, particularly wearing an ao dai (like mine in purple & black or my friend in white and black) or a salwar kameez (my other friend in indigo and black). This Sunday we had 6 sisters in pants (including the opening prayer) and 3 brothers in purple shirts (including one of the talks). We also had many “likes” for our picture from sisters in the ward who didn’t wear pants. Everyone felt welcome and accepted. It was one small step for womankind.

My name is Scout (my parents named me after Scout Finch from the book To Kill a Mockingbird.) I’m 12 years old and live in Scarsdale, NY. I wore pants to Church because I believe we need more opportunities for girls. I was nervous, but I’m glad I did it.

“What a beautiful Pants Sunday. I even made a new friend who hasn’t been to church in 6 years but has been considering becoming involved again, and after hearing about pants day, he decided today was the day. Meeting him was the highlight of my day.
My ward was wonderful–they’re very accepting of me and my unique contributions. I suspect the sacrament talks were chosen in response to pants Sunday (Theme: being nice. Given by a very open-minded couple.)
I let my 3-year-old daughter choose between pants or a dress, and she chose a dress, and would have chosen high heels, too, if given the opportunity. Don’t ask me where she gets it… Not from me…”

I feel privileged to join in unity my concerns for all the various experiences women have had in feeling belittled, marginalized, called out for thinking differently, or feeling subpar to men or even women in the church. Women have much to offer in the world within our homes and within our church, all we ask is for someone to listen and hear those concerns in hopes for wide arms of respect and opportunity to build a better organization and community where all are truly seen as equals.

We wore lots of purple! 😀 For various reasons I didn’t go with pants today, but I found out that I have to go back to the church in a half hour for a training of the new YW teaching program that the bishop is doing in the chapel and I’m thinking I am brave enough to wear pants to that. Baby steppin’ it!

My purple shirt and hairbow. Sad that I wasn’t courageous enough to do pants, but it’s all about taking steps, right? And to those who say feminists aren’t feminine…boom. I don’t know what’s more girly than ribbons and I LOVE ribbon!

My wife went early for a meeting and shocked me when I showed up—despite not knowing how she felt about everything, unbeknownst to me she wore a purple dress in support. As the only purple or pants wearer in the ward, it meant a lot.

I decided to wear pants to church and posted my decision on Facebook a few days beforehand. When I got to church, no one said anything about it, until sacrament meeting when I came upon a Facebook friend from the ward in slacks, smiling and thanking me for posting my decision! My husband wore purple and we all sat together.

That’s a little better. I didn’t have any pants that fit so I wore my hubby’s surprisingly comfortable slacks.

we are both ready for church. here we go!

One man told me how awesome my pants-wearing was and an older woman gave me a thumbs and told me how proud she is of me. I thought I was the only woman donning pants until I went to Relief Society where I sat by a recently returning member and investigator who both happened to be wearing pants.

I was the only woman in pants in my YSA ward, though a friend of mine
did rock a purple tie in solidarity. I’m blessed to live in Vancouver,
Canada. A very liberal open-minded place. I got congratulations from
my close friends who knew why I was doing it. A few odd looks but
nothing too troubling. I’ve received more backlash online than
inperson. My family (in Alberta, basically Utah) definitely does not
approve. I loved participating in this event. Seeing sister solidarity
is so inspiring!

Representing Rexburg, Idaho

My handsome husband, born and raised in Rexburg, Idaho, supporting me 100%. All day long he reminded me how fabulous I looked in pants. I’m inspired by so many husbands on here.

I was the only pants wearing woman in my YSA ward in Eastern Nebraska.
The only strange look I received was when I asked another woman to
take my picture. I did this for all my sisters and brothers that have
been marginalized, I did this for me.

Pants in Seattle! Trippy Christmas lights not intentional.

I wore pants and My husband and all of our boys wore kilts.

Hymns and Hers

I was the only one wearing pants today. (Henderson, Nevada) It felt great to stand up for what I believe!

Pants and a purple striped tie in Mesa, Arizona! Wearing pants felt so good! I felt so connected to my sisters and brothers around the world involved in this cause with us. I finally gave myself permission to acknowledge that both faith and doubt share space in my heart and that it’s okay.

Me and my supporters at the Redmond First Ward.

Pants bringing people together. Taciana and her new friend Cynthia.

Pants are liberating. I play the piano in Sacrament meeting and could take much bigger strides when walking to the stand than usual! Happy pants day, sisters in Zion! http://www.cablecarcouture.com/daily-outfit-wear-pants-to-church-day/

“After my mom’s slightly negative initial response to the movement, she changed her mind and wore her best purple blouse and a pendent from my grandmother to show three generations of support. My sister and I were the only ones in pants in a mid-singles ward of 700 members in Salt Lake.” FMH Admin says: Yay purple pants!

I was super conflicted about wearing pants today, because it was my baby’s blessing and I wanted to look good and sort of dressy for the event/pictures etc. But in the end I was excited and proud to stand up for women, for the sake of our daughters, on the day my newest daughter was officially welcomed into our community. “I’m doing this for you, baby girl,” I was thinking, “pictures be damned.” My father and husband wore purple ties as they bounced her, and blessed her, and held her up for the congregation to see.

Eleven ladies looking pant-eriffic in Lafayette, CA today. We were well received and I personally enjoyed wearing wool trousers to keep my legs warm on a cold and overcast day!

Pants in Ogden. I gave my daughter the choice between a dress and pants, and she picked the dress.

This is what my bishopric-member husband wore as he conducted sacrament meeting today. My son wore a purple tie, too, but I didn’t get a picture of him.

Here’s a picture of me on Pants to Church Day with two of my lovely daughters. They both wore pants and I wore a green skirt, white sweater and loud, sparkly purple jewelry. I chose not to wear pants this week for various reasons, but mostly it boils down to the fact that I’ve worn pants for the past two weeks and I just wanted to keep people wondering what in the world I’m about. 🙂

All I needed was a kick in the pants to go back to church.

Ifrit and NoCoolNameTom in our Pants Power Poses!

Pants Sunday in Seattle. I saw three of us and tons of purple (most of which I’m pretty sure was incidental). The best thing, however, happened as I was getting dressed this morning. My husband is super supportive of everything I do, but he doesn’t tend to get involved in my stuff. I didn’t even suggest, nor did I expect, that he should wear purple. His philosophy of clothing has always been that clothes should function as camouflage and help him disappear into the background as much as possible. As he left for an early morning meeting, I noticed that he had a red and blue tie on with a purplish shimmer. I choked up a little and he said, “it’s the closest thing to purple I own, I hope it’ll do”. It certainly did do.

The Ties that Bind

Blending in with the chapel carpet.

My husband, showing his solidarity for all of us. My slacks turned into Jammies before the photo-op. It was nice to be in this together.

Portland, Oregon. The older boy’s shirt has teeny purple polka dots on a light gray background, and the younger boy is wearing a purple ribbon tied around his wrist. Black velvet pants are perfect for the holiday season!

My 16-year old son as we toasted a glass of sparkling pear juice as a family:
“So, if I agree with you and Mom about wearing pants and purple today does that make me a feminist?
“Yes, Son. It does.”
“Cool.”
My 6′ 4”, indie-music loving, basketball dunking, agnostic, foodie, feminist son 🙂

In Boise, ID. We wore pants and purple. It was a fantastic day!

Ms. Jack showing some interfaith support!

I’ve never quite felt like there was anyone who ever understood how I have always felt, and now I have a whole community!
It has been a huge blessing to be a part of this.
Thank you so so so so very much.

Mostly. my pants went unnoticed. What did go noticed, by me, was the peace in my heart for all 3 hours of church. I was blessed with the impression that I am where I am supposed to be. That me as a woman, a feminist, a daughter of Heavenly Parents… I am doing okay and I should continue on this path.

I don’t go to church anymore, but went today in my purple and pants to help make a positive change for those who still do. (Watch out! Fairy wings might be the next grass roots dress up day!)

I came. I wore pants, and found a mofem friend in my ward!

One of the older women at church came up to me and said that she’d heard about Pants Sunday on the radio.
Her – “Is that what you’re doing?”
Me – Yes.
her – “What is it for? What is the reason?”
Me – Well, a lot of women in the church feel marginalized…
her – Yes they do!
Me – So it’s mostly an act of solidarity.
her – Well, I forgot all about wearing pants! I slept in and didn’t even think about it. But good job! I’m glad you did it!
And there was quite a bit of purple going on at church today. A couple of guys I know did it for this, but I’m not sure about the others. It sure was a popular color today.

Pantsed.

My lovely wife and youngest daughter. 2 empowered babes. 1 happy man.

Pants. Pants, pants, pants. Pants.
(Inserted by FMH editor: Triple Points for PURPLE PANTS!!)

From a new friend in my ward, wearing a beautiful purple top.

Nobody batted an eye today. The only comment I got was from our 85 year old RS chorister, who, when I crouched down to help my three year old with something, said, “How practical and lovely. Good for you!” Proud of my ward today.

Making history today with the rest of the Mormon Feminists!

Me, in pants, holding a dress I donated today.

Pants in San Diego! I taught my first Gospel Principles lesson in pants and it went really well!

“Cassi and Braeden in front of our purple house in Iowa City on our way to church to serve in our Primary callings. Purple: its not just a statement, it’s a way of life.”

My daughters and I after church. I was the only women in my ward (that I saw) wearing pants, no one said anything about it. I did get a couple of double-takes, but everything else was normal. It felt great to wear pants to church, and I will most likely do it again in the future.

The MoTab Christmas broadcast today–all the women there were totally in support 🙂

Successful pants day at church in Milwaukee, WI! I was the only woman wearing pants but two men wore purple ties (one was my husband). As the RS President I felt compelled to stand with the many women in our worldwide organization who yearn for more equality. It was a very positive experience. I was even asked to say the opening prayer in Sacrament mtg. My Branch President told me he thought it was great 🙂

Alice Fisher Roberts (Alliegator) wears pants!

Cynthia L. and her children in Carlsbad, CA.

Nervous, yet feeling inspired!

3/4s of our family. We had a really beautiful day in church today singing in the choir, having a productive meeting with our bishop and having very open discussions in all our classes, all the time surrounded by various supporters of the movement. We really love our ward here in Madison.

We’re both wearing purple. No pants-wearing women spotted yet!

As sisters in pants!

Absolutely no other pants-wearing women at my ward in North Ogden, UT. Got a few sidelong looks and quite a few people refusing to look me in the eye. But then again, a lot of them already fear me because of the Obama signs and the Gay Pride parade thing. 😉

The only one I got of me at church.

Sitting in primary. In pants. Hubby rocked a purple and gold bow tie. I’m the only woman in pants today. Saw quite a few women in purple tops, but that could be coincidental. I got a nod and thumbs up from a friendly and liberal grandpa in the ward, but no one else seemed to notice. No dirty looks. 🙂

PANTS!

Kara and David from Spanish Fork, UT

I smiled more in church today than I have for a long time.
Pantspocalypse was a joy!

I wore purple and my incredibly brave wife and our dear friend wore pants today in Provo.

Purple polka dot tie & yes, that is a hint of that darn celestial smile under my shirt. Can the next action item be garment reform?

My girls and I wearing our pants and purple! I am doing this for them.

Here is the scene in my ward in Holladay, Utah. Me in black pants (hard to see that one of my legs is up on a choir seat) and my Army veteran friend in her camouflage skirt and boots. Also my husband and a member of the bishopric with purple ties.

My son and I wearing pants to support my sisters advocating for equality on Wear Pants to Church Day. I was a little nervous but I’m so glad I did it.

Me in Buena Vista, VA There were two women wearing pants in my ward today. Me, and a teenage investigator. So I sat by her and her mom in sacrament meeting, to make sure she knew she wasn’t the only one in pants. My husband (who was sick and stayed home with the sick kids) thought purple thoughts. Pants in Provo did not cause much of a scandal. 3 pants-wearers in the same sacrament meeting, and we weren’t even struck by lightning. Yay Pants!

Ready for church in my Sunday Best in Layton, UT. My two Young Women-aged girls wore purple in support and are rallying for some dress pants of their own. My wonderfully supportive husband searched for something purple at the store, to no avail. My ward was wonderful. The service was spirit-filled and Christ-centered. And when it was time to sing “Once There Was a Snowman” in nursery, guess who had ZERO fear of flashing her garments? — Sarah Clark, Pleasant Hills Ward, Layton, UT.

Mofem representing Harlem.

I had many reasons to wear pants to church today, but the biggest reason I did it was that I was very afraid to do it, and that was why I needed to. I’m so glad I did.

Bifurcation and Purple in Herriman, Utah.

Here are pics of my family from today. You can caption it something like “The Estrada family dons pants and purples for solidarity and equality.”

Ready for church in Tacoma, WA!

Sisters just rocked it out in pants. Bring on the liberation!

I’m on the Welcome Committee in Relief Society; I think I should dress like this all the time so that whenever we have an investigator or visitor or anyone else who comes to church in pants they will feel welcome for sure, and not so all alone.

Sister Emily Peterson wore pants to the Hillcrest 6th Ward in Orem, Utah. She also gave a talk in Sacrament Meeting–Pants At The Pulpit!

This is me, Nan Wilson, of Dalton Gardens Ward in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. I wore pants to church today and I loved it. It was empowering. I received text messages from several friends in the last few days, urging me not to wear pants (apparently I have a reputation, because they assumed I would). I will be doing it again!

PANTS at Temple Square!

Here we are on our way to church in Deltona, Florida. Didn’t have anyone ask me about the pants, although somebody asked me why I always wear hats. (Um, because I like hats?) There were lots of women and men wearing purple at church. I don’t think they had heard about the event, so they probably just like purple, but I was secretly pleased anyway.

Cambridge, England
My husband wore a purple tie!

I’ve been wearing pants every Sunday for about 8 years and my son
routinely sports a purple shirt and tie, but the pants were a first for my
almost-16-year-old daughter.
Outside our church building in Heidelberg Germany…our oldest son is home for the holidays and our youngest daughter still lives with us. Pants for the sisters and and purple shirts/ties for the supportive men in our lives. Yeah us!
Here is my outfit I wore today. There were at least two other women in pants, many wearing purple (men and young girls and boys too!) in our ward today.

My roommate and I in pants, with our two new friends (who we found because they were wearing purple!) after attending our singles ward on BYU campus!

I’m a mother. I’m a wife (8 years anniversary tomorrow!). I’m a daughter. I’m a sister. I’m attend graduate school at night. I’m a grief counselor. I’m a volulnteer elementary school art teacher and reading tutor. I’m a feminist. My husband supports equality. He wore purple and I wore pants to church on December 16th, 2012. I’M A MORMON. (Sunnyvale, California)

Hi,
I think I may have been the only woman in our ward who wore pants in support of this movement. There was a woman in leggings and a woman returning to activity in pants, but I may have been the only rabble-rouser.
Best,
Andrea Rediske
Waterford Lakes Ward
Orlando, FL

This is what I wore as I gave a talk about my heartbreak as a woman in a patriarchal church.
You can download the recording here: bit.ly/Y9yJw3
Or read my basic outline here: bit.ly/RXZz8r
The people who talked to me afterwards were all positive about it, thanking me for my authenticity and sharing their own struggles. One man even assured me that my Mother is right here and she will never leave me. The bishop said if he’d known, he would have worn purple, and he asked if he could give my husband and me blessings.
I’m kind of surprised to find that I feel like a bit of the burden is lifted in having shared it. And to make me feel even better, I found out that my sister and her husband also observed the day in their ward.

Seeing as I wear pants to church every time I go and that I don’t own a single article of purple clothing, I didn’t know how to support the cause. So, in the end, I asked my wife to make me some purple pants to wear, which I wore with great conviction.

I was doing a giddy jig thinking my son was not quite ready to snap the shot yet. My son also captured a more serious up-the-nose shot but I think this is much better.

Medford Oregan Fourth Ward Represents!

I wasn’t the only Pants Lady in my ward today: the other two were an investigator and a newly confirmed member. Maybe they didn’t notice that they were the only women (besides me) in pants, but maybe they did. And I was glad to stand with them.
