I was talking to some mothers in my ward (small community, West Texas) who have been the target of illegitimate complaints made to CPS. It is nothing short of harassment and bigotry. Baptist and the Church of Christ are big here and quite frankly they hate us and believe the most heinous, ridiculous lies (i.e. everyone is naked inside the temple) so it fuels the CPS to go after us a little harder based on their own prejudices.

MD, as soon as I saw the footage of the church buses at the ranch, this is what went through my mind. Having lived in the Bible belt, I have witnessed firsthand that the bigotry against the church is horrible - and has got to be 10 times worse for the FLDS.

I hope these families get their children back soon.

My husband, who is a medical professional, made a complaint to CPS involving a patient of his. Several employees witnessed a mother beating her child inside the medical facility. And other patients witness the same mother assaulting her child again in the parking lot and can inside to complain to the receptionist.

(Now don't ask me why no one called the police ASAP because that is what I would have done.)

My husband did not witness either incident and didn't know anything was wrong until long after the mother and child left. I told him that it was his responsibility to report it to CPS and he did.

Guess what? They sent him a "thanks for your interest" letter. I'm serious. I've saved it as evidence of their ineptitude.

We lived in San Antonio for 4 years during which time 3 children died who were supposedly under the care of CPS. In spite of rampant neglect/abuse the children were not removed from the homes. One was starved to death and the other two were beaten to death.

But a fake phone call warrants the removal of a few hundred children? And don't get me started on that self-righteous judge making outlandish demands on the mothers before she is willing to comply with the higher court's order, which she has no legal right to do. It's immoral abuse of the law on CPS and the judge's part.

My brother is a CPS worker in WV and even he was cringing at the horrible and unconstitutional abuse that occured at the hands of the state-employed kidnappers.

Not too often I root for the weirdo kooks. Leave it to Texas CPS to help me realize that I have something in common with isolationist, polygamist, religious zealots who appear uneducated and wear Little House on the Prairie dresses. The commonality: parental rights which can be illegally dissolved at the whim of state "do-gooder" bureaucrats.

Now that the kids will be returned, prosecute the statutory rape cases, the damn prank caller, fire the CPS family right-abusers, and recall the blind judge.

No kidding. Like maybe detaining the guys in charge of all this. Why is it the women and children are taken, but the instigators get to go free? Kind of annoying...
