fMh Paris Snacker (Reminder)
Mary Magdalene sayz:
Plans are underway for the First Semi-Annual fMh European Snacker (here’s to having such a great experience we get together 2x a year!).
Place: Paris, France
Meeting location: Tour Eiffel (Eiffel Tower)
![]()
Date: Tuesday, 22 September 2009
Time: 12:00, Noon
As the date draws nearer, we’ll get specific information out, e.g. specific meeting place around the tower. After the photo-op, we’ll make our way over to a nearby cafe for visiting, etc. Here’s hoping Amanda can make a recommendation.
All are welcome. Here’s to some good times ![]()

Tuesday at noon?!?! This means taking a day off, eh?
Oh the Eiffel Tower. We’ll really look like tourists then. If we find a brasserie at Trocadero, you have the best view of the ET (right across the river).
My husband wants to know if we are making a pilgrimage to Simone de Beauvoir’s grave.
Comment by Amanda — July 18, 2009 @ 1:15 am
My husband is now laughing at us, saying, “So the feminists are gathering around a male symbol.” (Sorry for the explicit image)
Our French counterparts would mourn the inability to escape the constant presence of Man.
Comment by Amanda — July 18, 2009 @ 1:21 am
will someone eat a jambon beurre for me? or anything close to it? i miss le jambon de france. et le pain……oh who are kidding, i miss it all.
maybe you should go to the bois de boulogne. you wouldn’t look so touristy there.
Comment by Terina — July 18, 2009 @ 1:42 am
I will be there in spirit!!!
Comment by Chelsea — July 18, 2009 @ 8:03 am
I will be there. The Eiffel Tower is kind of big. Do you want to meet right underneath the center?
This is the perfect excuse for the trip to Paris you’ve always wanted, people. Let’s show up in forces!
Comment by meems — July 18, 2009 @ 10:11 am
(That means YOU, all you Permas!)
Comment by meems — July 18, 2009 @ 10:11 am
hehehehe…. of course the feminists are meeting at such a phallic symbol… I don’t hate men. They are very very handy indeed
meems - you’re right - there’s too much geography right at the tower - perhaps Amanda can suggest a more precise location or I can scout out a spot on Monday (heading in for a day-trip).
Here’s to some good Feminist times.
Comment by Mary Magdalene — July 18, 2009 @ 11:36 am
Wish I could - Tuesday being a school day, doesn’t work for me though i’m afraid. I’m happy to host a future Europe snacker in England
Comment by Rebecca — July 18, 2009 @ 11:41 am

There are flames…..flames shooting…..from the side of my face….
Comment by reese — July 18, 2009 @ 11:47 am
Geez, you guys, Paris??? I’ll come when you go to Italy. Italian guys love fat old American women.
Comment by annegb — July 18, 2009 @ 12:39 pm
Annegb … but you can spend a week in Paris for less than a week in San Francisco … Italy takes a lot more walking.
Comment by Stephen M (Ethesis) — July 18, 2009 @ 2:56 pm

Somebody eat a fromage crepe from one of the little street corner places.
(but don’t tell me about it or I might break down)
Comment by Alliegator — July 18, 2009 @ 6:52 pm
Dang, we’re going to Paris next weekend for a two week trip…
Comment by Dan — July 18, 2009 @ 8:22 pm
Gosh Rebecca, I was just in England for 9 days!! We should have had a do. I don’t think i got all that close to where you are though. How close is Stratford-upon-Avon?
Anyway, have Ronan take the kids to school. He can call in sick. The chunnel is calling out to you… Rebeeeeeeeccca…..
Comment by meems — July 19, 2009 @ 12:23 am
Dan, if you come to Church while you’re there, let me know!
Comment by another Amanda — July 19, 2009 @ 1:02 am
another Amanda,
Yes, we actually are planning on going to church next Sunday in Paris. Not knowing any ward there, we found a building close to the Louvre. We’re not stuck on going anywhere. Where should we go to church next Sunday?
Comment by Dan — July 19, 2009 @ 5:44 pm
Sorry the other Amanda was me; there is another one running around somewhere so when she posts I had the “another”…
The church is at metro Hotel de Ville, at 12 rue St Merri. RS/Priesthood starts at 9:30. There isn’t another ward inside Paris so that’s it!
Comment by Amanda — July 20, 2009 @ 12:16 am
I’m stoked! I plan on eating my way through the city.
Comment by julie — July 20, 2009 @ 1:28 am
sweet. Thanks Amanda. We’ll be there.
Comment by Dan — July 20, 2009 @ 5:48 am
Julie - nothing like a CulinaryPalooza to get excited about - I’m there with you for sure
Can’t wait to sit down with wayfarer and Amanda as well.
I’m gonna make it a great day sisters and brothers - you can too!
Comment by Mary Magdalene — July 21, 2009 @ 12:05 am
meems - too bad you didn’t tell me!
wayfarer - I’m in the East Midlands. I’ll do a post sometime to find out other UK fMh-ers and we can then find a central location
Comment by Rebecca — July 22, 2009 @ 7:09 am
Amanda,
Why didn’t I know another fMh fan was lurking on this blog while we lived in Paris!! –Sina
Comment by Maybe — August 3, 2009 @ 11:12 pm
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo not on a Tuesday! There is VERY little chance I can make it. Dang! And I am in France.
Comment by Gwennaëlle — August 25, 2009 @ 2:17 pm
And forget the dead ones! Praise le living ones. Forget about Simone de Beauvoir and buy Simone Veil’s book if there is a translation in English. Or Gisele Halimi’s book
Comment by Gwennaëlle — August 25, 2009 @ 2:19 pm
Is this still on? Tuesday the 22nd of September 12:00 Eiffel Tower? Smack in the middle? Wearing pink carnations? Holding up fMh signs? Ladies?
Comment by meems — September 10, 2009 @ 2:37 am
Anybody know where I can find the cheapest possible tickets to Paris? OOdles of new medical tests find me in need of a very foreign, very frivolous, very non-medicinal vacation.
Oh wait, I have a neurology appt. on that day. CRAP! DH even had the week off. I’m going to pout now.
Eat a crepe for me, Mary Magdalene, and I shall pronounce it a good day indeed!
Comment by Janet — September 10, 2009 @ 11:54 am
While you’re all having a great time in gay paris, I’ll be sulking in honor of you.
Comment by Derek — September 10, 2009 @ 12:14 pm

I hear Paris is overrated.

Comment by Lupita — September 10, 2009 @ 3:41 pm
Looking forward to meeting you guys so much, but wondering where at the tour eiffel and how we will identify each other.
Have visions of going up to complete strangers and asking ‘ are you a feminist mormon housewife?’
Not sure that will do anything for anglo-french relations.
Never thought I’d see the day, when I got to a snacker.Ah well,Cendrillon does get to go to the Ball.

Yes, how will the ’snacclites identify each other?
Comment by meems — September 11, 2009 @ 12:35 am
I so can’t wait to be there…. and yes please… do we meet at the merry-go-round across the street from the tower?
I’d offer to say “look for the American holding cotton candy” but I don’t think that’s enough of a description
i believe there are several cafes within a few blocks walk - any suggestions?
I will for sure be wearing my pink FMH zip hoodie.
Vive La FMH

Comment by julie — September 13, 2009 @ 11:21 am
Just found this site. I’m going to Paris this week and still looking for a clean, safe and reasonable hotel in Paris near Metro if possible. Any suggestions? I was going to stay at the Hotel Michelet Odeon but I didn’t move quick enough on the reservation (time differences!).
Suggestions are appreciated! If I’m able, can I join your group on Tuesday?
Thanks and kind regards,
Nancy
Comment by Nancy Orr — September 13, 2009 @ 12:27 pm
Good idea Julie-have lost track of your e mail. I’m a little incapacitated so would prefer to narrow things down to a cafe if that’s possible. How do i go about giving you guys my number?
Comment by wayfarer — September 13, 2009 @ 1:31 pm
Nancy,wltm.See you soon!
We are staying at a hotel near the jardin de luxembourg and have never yet stayed in a hotel in Paris that was not clean and safe, but reasonable is a different set of propositions.
Good luck and bon voyage women of the 22nd.

Wayfarer & Rebecca - I would love to get to a snacker in England. I’m over in E. Yorkshire.
Comment by Lulu — September 16, 2009 @ 9:30 am
Bonjour!
Nancy, you are unlikely to find an unsafe dirty hotel in Paris, unless you go in the suburbs or in the 19th or 20th district (avoid!!)Any touristy section is no problem. I have never never felt unsafe in Paris!
The cafés at the Place de Trocadero are indeed great and have excellent views of the Tour Eiffel, but they are expensive! We’re talking 5 euros a soda! There are lots and lots of places to go in the area, so don’t hesitate to shop around.
Unfortunately, I cannot join you. It’s a rather busy time at work and I can’t get the time off.
Have fun!!
Comment by Amanda — September 16, 2009 @ 9:42 am
Wayfarer… I’m totally great with meeting you at Cafe l’Homme (is Paris really male centered?) after gathering up a group (or just myself) at the Tower for a photo op.
Can’t wait!

I agree with #54–Germany please…if I’d known about this Paris one before tonight, I would’ve gone, I’m on the French border!but next time for sure…as long as anyone can go, right? is anyone allowed to show? what are we supposed to bring? thx.

We found each other - it worked beautifully - thank heaven for the crackberry that never leaves my hands and the cleverness of international roaming fees. it was beautiful.
also - I got to be in the company of amazing women - they are strong and faithful and courageous… and while we four were different from each other, there was love for everyone around the table.
talk about a great day in Europe. Hugs and sugars to my new FMH bffs.
Comment by Mary Magdalene — September 23, 2009 @ 9:35 am
I am starting a support group- the intention is to help faithful lds stay active in the face of doubts like, “what kind of loving God would deny me a Paris Snacker?” and harder questions like, “is it Satan’s Plan that I be eaten up by jealousy of Sister Magdalene et al?”
Seriously though I think you guys are so cool for doing it!
Comment by crazywomancreek — September 23, 2009 @ 10:22 am
CWC… oh, seriously, I need to join that group. This just about killed me!

This not Marta. I am called Val or Veleda and Velda. Anyway, are you for real? A Paris Snacker for righteous sisters who love with all their hearts, minds, and loins their husbands, houses, and children. Who live for being creative with all their time to build beautiful “nest” for all to rest and enjoy. To have a corner or a haven from the evil acts and ugly knowledge of the world. I’m teasing. When I did serve as a Relief Society President humor played a big part in being friendly, open minded, spiritual and a kind person. Gees, now I build a nest for myself - I’m really into the “me” stuff - very main stream American. Being a Mormon and Navajo was just getting so so ? Cool, Kool what’s that? Hey crazywomancreek - how about meeting in Paris for a snack - some day in the far future and talk about latter day saints and God - life. Val at vjktuc@yahoo. com

Hi All
Oh how awesome. One of the best experiences of my life -never thought it could happen, and it so nearly didn’t.So does this now mean I’m a bona fide FeMoHo?
My sisters are scrumptious.Wish I could meet you every day and so much that I thought afterwards that I want to know about your amazing selves. So much respect for each of you,and thank you for your great patience.
This is an amazing space.Let’s meet again, and in the interim, can I propose a snacker in London?
How about Pizza Express, overlooking the Thames and the restored Globe theatre, and a stone’s throw from Tate Modern?
DH says this would be Kings Cross main line and a 63 or 45 bus to Blackfriar’s bridge.
You can see I’m serious.Any takers?
