A Mormon (Feminist!) Image: Fearless
This is my daughter at age 6. When I look at this picture I see all the qualities I believe a strong woman should have: bravery, excitement, happiness, and the confidence to wear a swimsuit. She brings this passion to everything, from jumping off the dock at her first Girl Scout campout to trying a challenging program at a new school; from giving her brother the skinny on where babies come from to telling me yesterday that she is going to be baptized because she can’t wait to have the Holy Ghost.
I see great things for her future and hope I can learn from her how to be so bold.

My caption would have been:
“Invisible jet ski.”

This is how my 8 year old daughter is. So fearless! I can’t wait to see how bright her future will be.

Bridget - I will remember that for her book of remembrance. I guess it does look like she’s on a jet ski. It was either this one or the one of her jumping off the diving board - top-less - at age 4. The girl is unstoppable.

Great contribution. (It would be nice if the post identified the contributor…)

I think it’s harder to be fearless as a mother. I totally would have done this as a kid (and still would), but when I saw the picture my first thought was “Is she jumping out far enough that she’s not going to land on the pier? ‘Cause she could get seriously hurt if she did.” I find I do that thing with my kids all the time — things I wouldn’t think twice about doing myself I start to have a heart attack when my kids attempt. Luckily I realize this and able to refrain from stopping their exploration.

As the grandmother of Little Ms. Eris I can tell you that she is a carbon copy of her mother. She is always up for any challenge that I throw at her (I throw a lot) and is a true-blue feminist at age seven. She is scary-smart. Eris’ title is right on.
She is also very quick-witted. Two weeks ago she sat at my kitchen counter devouring her third bowl of vegetable soup. I asked her if she had a hole in her leg. Without missing a bite she replied “No, but I have a crack in my butt. Will that do?”.
Love the kid. Thanks, Eris.
