Revised - San Francisco Area “Reading and Snacker” with Carol Lynn Pearson!

By: fMhLisa - June 18, 2010

We’ve had to make some changes from the original plan that was posted at the end of May, but now we are ready to announce the revised San Francisco Area fMh “reading and snacker” with Carol Lynn Pearson!  Carol Lynn has agreed to open her home in Walnut Creek to us for a special group reading of her play, “Mother Wove the Morning,” followed by discussion and a snacker.

“Mother Wove the Morning” is a one-act play that Carol Lynn wrote and performed over three hundred times, portraying sixteen women throughout history in search of God the Mother.

Please join us for this special opportunity with Carol Lynn Pearson on Saturday, June 26th.  The details are as follows:

Date:        Saturday, June 26th

Time:       Reading and discussion – 2:00 p.m., snacker – 5:00 p.m.

Location: 1384 Cornwall Court, Walnut Creek, CA  94597

Cost:        $20.00 for attendance at the reading; no cost for the snacker only

The $20.00 fee can be paid to Carol Lynn at the door, or if you’d like to pay ahead of time, post your e-mail address and I will let you know where it can be sent.  Please make all checks payable to: Carol Lynn Pearson.  Whether you are attending the reading and the snacker, or just the snacker, please bring something to share with the group.  Carol Lynn will provide plates, cups and napkins.

Looking forward to seeing many friends, old and new, at Carol Lynn’s house on the 26th!

  4. Wow, that is more impressive than the free barbecue, hamburgers and such we are having in Dallas in mid-July. Now I need to get a featured guest.

  10. Sounds great! I will be there.

  11. I may be there or I may not. I have a knitting class that morning and would need to arrange the day’s schedule with my husband. I don’t think I’m doing anything that evening, so it may be a “go.”

  12. Nuts! That’s also the Amateur Radio Field Day.

Is ice cream OK for a snacker item?

  13. Mike H. - IMO, yes. Ice cream is appropriate for any occasion :-)

  16. It looks like I won’t be able to make it to the reading, but I’ll still be there for the snacker!

  17. I’m going to try to make it to the snacker. Also, since I posted this on the last Berkeley snacker thread after that thread was pretty dead and thus I don’t think anyone read it, I was wondering if anyone goes to church in Berkeley and could tell me anything about the ward there. If I’m just visiting (not a member), is it okay to go to any of the Berkeley wards, and is there any way to know ahead of time what the service will be about? Also, is it offensive if I visit but don’t want to give the missionaries my phone number? I visited when I lived in the South Bay, and I felt pressured to give my phone number to a million people, which I really wasn’t comfortable with and then didn’t feel comfortable going back because I felt bad for not calling the missionaries back (yes, I know that’s my own fault…). Also when I visited in the South Bay, I managed to visit on Fast Sunday and on the Sunday when RS was about p*rn, and I was hoping to visit again on a more typical day. Thanks!

  18. epi -

It’s fine to visit any time. The first week of the month is always Fast Sunday. The Sunday School lessons are from the Old Testament right now. The second and third week RS/PH lessons are from the Gospel Principles manual. The Sunday closest to July 24th will be about pioneers, at least in Sacrament Meeting (probably).

It’s not offensive if you don’t give them your phone number. You can just tell them you’re not ready/don’t like to share (don’t call us, we’ll call you.)

But if you don’t want to go on Sunday, check this out:

The Berkeley Ward wants to continue and build on the work that our stake began last fall of better understanding and loving our gay brothers and sisters. Please join us on Tuesday, July 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the Berkeley Ward building for an important conversation which will take place among Mormons and LGBT people of faith. This will be an opportunity for us to extend a hand of friendship and to facilitate a greater understanding and spark ideas of how Church members can support their neighbors, friends and family members who are gay. We will have the chance to hear from gay and lesbian couples as they share their stories about marriage, family and their faith journey.

The address is 1501 Walnut Street in Berkeley.

  19. LRC-
That was printed in our ward bulletin, too! I’m in the Oakland First. I think I might go to that if I’m not in labor or freshly postpartum. :)

  20. As a person who went:

I thought it went well. Keri Brooks, Reese Dixon, TopHat, myself, Segulah, and others (forgive me please! I had trouble tracking everyone!)) were there. G’s artwork came up. Some talk about pregnancy, delivery, infertility. I talked a little too much.

Lorian: I wish up had been there. Carol Lynn talked about stopping the awful things being said & done to the GLBT community. You really should try to go to the July 6 meeting in Berkeley.

  22. Oops! It wasn’t Segulah! A better list on TopHat’s blog:

I got to meet several bloggers (and I apologize if I inadvertently leave anyone out), such as Reese Dixon, Valorie, Kelly Ann, Lynette, Seraphine, Top Hat, and Mike H.

  23. I am so dang sad I missed this, after all. (I did have a really great business meeting, but still.) I am so glad everyone who made it, made it. ((Tears.))

Thank-you so much, Valory, for taking over the organizing for me.

    love to all.

  24. We missed you, too, Jeannine. It was a lovely day with Carol Lynn; her reading of “Mother Wove the Morning” was very powerful and brought several of us to tears. Also attending, in addition to those mentioned in #20 & #22, were: Petra, Jenne from Seattle and her mother Carolyn, LRC and her husband and children, and Mike H.’s wife. Idaho G-ma, you would have loved this; I’m sure you were with us in spirit!

  25. I would have, thank you.

  26. It was a great experience. I’m not sure but my mom might have been the token non-member in attendance. My mom is planning to give a copy of “Mother Wove the Morning” to her Unitarian Universalist minister.

  27. Uh oh, Jeanne, I hope we didn’t overwhelm her!
