International Women’s Day
In honor of International Women’s Day, today, I would like to ask what you think would be a good way to celebrate this day. Girls’ night out? Send flowers/gifts/cards to all the significant women in your life? Take part in some activist activity? Maybe get ready for the Relief Society birthday next week? (March 17th, mark your calendars–and any thoughts on its coincidence with St. Patty’s?)
And, for your blogging pleasure, here are some links to some places around the net that are celebrating IWD:
Carnival of Feminists at indianwriting (Caroline’s temple post made the list!)
Black Feminista’s Happy Sista-hood Day!
Philobiblion’s On International Women’s Day….
Feminist African Sister’s International Women’s Day 2006
The official International Women’s Day site
Hugo’s excellent (as ever) “What I’m doing and what I have failed to do”: a long and personal meme on anti-sexist work

Well, the young women are at my house, playing on the new fort and eating Chinese food.
Not sure it is a full scale celebration though.

Maybe playing incessantly the song ‘Shaking the Tree‘ by Peter Gabriel and Youssou N’Dour. But most importantly, keep celebrating throught out the year. It would be a tragedy just to celebrate only one day.

St. Patty’s Day - Relief Society Anniversary . . . .
The only thing I can think of is that the color GREEN, is often taken to associate with fertility, or, the funner aspects of fertility - think about green M&M’s . . . .
It’s not easy being green.
It’s not easy being a woman.
Cool, some nice parallels there. Hee!
Actually, to celebrate the day (yesterday? the day before? I forget), what might be good is acknowledging everything one IS, as a woman, and everything one does, and then maybe talking with an important woman in your life about some of those things about them. Be it a grandmother, great-grandma, mother, aunt struggling with breast cancer, etc.

Meh, I’ve been too busy folding laundry to notice. Happy IWD now that I know it exists!

I do not know why the link that I posted above did not work. This is a new link to ‘Shaking the Tree’ . If not, the link is provided below. In any case, what do you think of this song? Is this a woman celebration? Or did I ‘misunderestimated’ it
